The Dodo: Smoked Turkey Sandwich

Some people head to the Dodo for the Toll House pie. We’ve followed this bistro from location to location for its Smoked Turkey Sandwich.
Why, you ask? First, the turkey comes thinly-sliced and stacked high on a soft, warm roll. Second, the no-frills sandwich is served with an unexpected wedge of cantaloupe and a light side of salad. But, let’s get serious: The secret is in the sauce—barbecue sauce, to be exact—which you should dip your sandwich in generously. It has tangy undertones of molasses, pepper—perhaps some brown sugar … we’re not sure.
What we are sure about is that this sandwich is good. Good enough even to get by at $8.95, though we wouldn’t mind paying a dollar or two less for it. But, at this point, you might as well top it with Swiss cheese for an additional 30 cents. It’s a move you won’t regret.

i’ve been away from utah for 8 years and this is still one of my daily cravings! i used to get one every time i was in town, until they moved to the gateway and sold out… so disapointing. but still a fabulous sandwich – and the salad is to die for, too!

Yeah, I am so glad you gave a shout out the Smoked Turkey. I gobble it up almost too fast. I had a friend who took home some BBQ sauce to go and tried to imitate it, but couldn’t get it just right. I LOVE THE DODO!!

I still crave the baked cream cheese appetizer. I have gone there before JUST for the appetizer and some wine. Mmm.. speaking of, I haven’t had it in about a year now… I guess it’s time to make a pilgrimage. :D

Now I’m all hungry. That sandwich is TDF, and it’s a good thing, because the service is spotty and the prices a little steep.
I could drink that sauce, though. YUM

A delicious sandwich. If they were more of a white tablecloth establishment I would be getting exactly the delicious food I expected. Alas, they are a more diner-like and so I’m quite disappointed with their portion sizes and higher prices. For $5, I’d return to their Smoked Turkey sandwich in a heartbeat. For $8+tip? I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

I really need the recipe for the dressing on their house salad. I crave it.
