Rich’s Bagels

It comes down to two words: Asiago cheese. It’s the smell that got your mouth watering in high school (as long as you didn’t leave your bag o’ bagels to swelter in the car), and which had you risking after-lunch tardiness and the resulting smack-down from Mr. McMorris.
But it was worth it. Why? Because Rich’s Bagel’s original cheese bagel (a flavor that has since sprouted up in almost every bagel joint coast to coast, but in sub-par varieties), is absolutely delicious. It’s thick and soft and cheesy and fresh. What more could you want in a bagel?

Back in the ’90s, we ordered ours with just fresh tomatoes or, get this, raspberry jam. The latter is really tasty; we dare you to try it. Nowadays, we like to do a build-your-own sandwich with high-quality deli turkey and gouda, deli mustard and fresh vegetables like cucumbers, sprouts, spinach and carrots. Ten years later, the cheese bagels are as good as ever, and combined with veggies, the taste is unstoppable.
Yes, Rich makes other bagels like blueberry, cranberry, and honey whole wheat. Somehow, they aren’t nearly as plump as the cheese variety. You can also order Rich’s original spinach or chicken pistachio salads or take home a bag of their ready-to-cook oatmeal. Whatever you do, we suggest you wash it all down with a vanilla coke (not from the can).

I love Rich’s Bagels. It was hard to leave Sandy for LA knowing I would not get my Asiago Cheese Bagel Turkey Sandwhich every Friday.

Living in NYC, even just for a few months, made me a bagel brat. This post came at the perfect time since Einsteins just wasn’t doing it for me this morning.
Thanks!

The veggie sandwich with veggie cream cheese is my favorite veggie sandwich around. The egg sandwich on asiago is also amazing!

Oh, that asiago bagel is to die for! I remember sluffing school to drive over to Holladay to get one for lunch all the time! And I have always thought the blueberry bagels were absolutely the best!

Ah, it’s been a long since I’ve been to Rich’s…a classic. Thanks for the reminder. I now live in the bagel capital of the country–and I wouldn’t take one of them over Rich’s asiago cheese! (But then, I am a sucker for cheese…)
