Ask Your Heart Out: Breakfast, Anyone?

We’ve told you about low-key, everyday breakfast stops like Millcreek Cafe and filled you in on favorites like Blue Plate Diner, Ruth’s Diner, and Caffe Niche in Salt Lake City, not to mention Bear Paw Cafe in St. George—if you’re heading south for the weekend. But we’ve never focused on the first meal of the day enough … shame on us for not dishing on the Original Pancake House in Sugarhouse or Harvard/Yale’s Eggs in the City. Or telling you about the Saturday brunch options at Porcupine.
Janey wrote in looking for favorite breakfast stops in Utah County. One on our list is Guru’s. Anyone have a favorite place in the greater Orem/Provo area that’s a nice step away from your typical Moons-Over-My-Hammy routine?
Let’s talk breakfast. Share your Utah favorites below!

Is it too cliche to say Ruth’s? It is still my favorite after all these years. You can’t beat the location/atmosphere. Hotel Monaco used to have a decadent brunch as well…

Magleby’s Fresh on University Blvd…or is it Ave? Well, I moved from Provo two years ago and apparently that’s enough to confuse the intersecting Universities. Anyhow, Magelby’s Fresh for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

I cannot say enough good things about Twenty-Five Main, in St. George. It is just steps from the Bear Paw Cafe.

Die hard Amy Butler fans will notice the beautiful seating booths, which will beckon you to stay and chat, long after your meal is finished. The music was vibing and had my three year old grooving as he ate his pancakes! After we finished off our lattes and meal, we were able to take home $1 cupcakes. Day old cupcakes are just as good as their baked fresh daily variety.
You cannot go wrong for Breakfast, or any meal for that matter, at Twenty Five Main.

I know it’s pretty standard to have Kneader’s on my list, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good! Their all-you-can-eat french toast is AMAZING! The syrup, the strawberries, the everything. It’s delish!

Blue Lemon in Alpine is one of my favorite places to eat since they opened just about a month ago. They have a bistro where they have pastries cup cakes, and items to go, etc. And a restaurant where they offer delicious salads, soups, entrees, and sandwiches. It is not only inexpensive for the atmosphere and service they offer, but it also very much on the healthy side. I absolutely love this place!

My favorite is Sunshine Cafe in North Salt Lake. It’s a little restaurant that is always packed on the weekends and they have the best breakfast (and they serve it all day!). If you go, try the granola pancakes with the raspberry jam. So good.
Market Street Grill also has good breakfast.

If you are in Davis County you must hit Doug & Emmy’s, an old train station in Layton that just happens to be at the Front Runner’s Layton stop, or Grannie Annies just off the Kaysville exit. They have the same food and are packed all week long. Their scones are to die for…breakfast is definitely what they are known for. You won’t be disappointed!!

Eggs in the City, 1300 South 1700 East, Salt Lake City. They have the best breafast burrito, smothered in Chile Verde and their Fruit topped blintzes are to die for!!!
Fast and friendly service – it never disappoints.Open for breakfast and lunch.

Not to repeat what’s already been said, but Kneader’s french toast is my absolute favorite. Delicious! I also love Gandolfo’s breakfast burritos. yummy.

Jeremiah’s in Ogden is divine. The omelets, French toast, pancakes, everything. They’re always packed on weekends, but it’s worth the wait. Huge portions, great coffee, mountain man atmosphere… What else could you want?

Dont forget about Riches Bagels…frittata, breakfast bagels, fresh oatmeal, and hot chocolate!! AND we have recently experienced the great breakfast options at Brittons Cafe on 7th East and 9400 South!! We had a great experience!

I second Magelby’s Fresh. The best! University Avenue in Provo, a few blocks north of the Riverside Country Club. And Ernie’s for breakfast sandwiches.

Citrus Grill, Over the Counter, Squatters, Park Cafe & Oasis all have different, tasty breakfasts in Salt Lake.

Lots of agreed yumminess above, but when you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast head to Callie’s Cafe on State Street in Orem. Everything you order is HUGE and it’s a fun atmosphere because it’s a cafe by day, bar by night :)
Killer Hash Browns is a complete breakfast in itself.

My favorite is Magleby’s Fresh, but there is also an amazing donut shop in PG near the Purple Turtle. It’s called Daylight Donuts. They are usually closed by 10 or 11 because they are so dang good they sell out pretty quickly! My favorite is the chocolate glaze!

Throwing my hat in for Kneaders (Morning Sunshine Smoothie…mmm…), as well as Magelby’s Fresh on North University Avenue in Provo.
March 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Kneader Kneader Kneaders! I love that french toast.
Also, Provo Bakery’s maple bars. I know it’s not a sit down…but boy can I put those doughnuts down! :)

I can’t believe no one has mentioned OTC… Over The Counter on 33rd south. It’s your classic hole in the wall that serves the most amazing cinnamon buns!
March 25th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
I love the Crunchy Almond French Toast (with cream cheese and strawberries) at Citris Grill. My dad likes their Bananas Foster french toast the best.
March 25th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
In the Foothill area, Pinion Market for Saturday brunch.
March 25th, 2009 at 6:46 pm
There is a great little place in American Fork on Main Street called: Blondie’s Diner. Not sure if it’s still in business… I haven’t been there in years… but it was a great lil’ hole in the wall that served a fab breakfast.

I love Finns over on 1624 S 1100 E. Great breakfast and atmosphere.
March 26th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
I’m going to have to say McCool’s. There’s one in South Jordan and a couple others around Salt Lake. They have great corned beef hash.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
I didn’t read the comments carefully, but Market Street Grill has THE BEST breakfast I have ever had in Utah. They only offer it at their downtown location. Just like most everything at MSG, it is excellent. Yum.
March 26th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Are you accepting suggestions for Moab?
The Jailhouse Cafe on Main Street is my favorite breakfast place in Utah, and my second favorite anywhere. They have fantastic coffee, “usuals” like egg dishes, scrambles, etc, and some really great originals. I suggest the yogurt and granola, sweedish pancakes with lingonberries, and ginger pancakes with apple butter. YUM.
Open seasonally, and only in the morning (I believe 7-12ish).

Magelby’s in the Riverwoods is our favorite Utah County breakfast place. We like to order pancakes with custom fillings (like bananas and chocolate chips, or raspberries and pecans).
March 27th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
