August Music Guide

Can’t believe summer’s on its way out? Take advantage of what we have left with any of these visiting bands and make Summer ’09 even more memorable.
The Twilight Concert Series continues at the Gallivan Center with the following lineup. You can get details here.
August 13: Toots and the Maytals
August 20: Iron & Wine & Okkervil River
August 27: Robert Randolph and the Family Band & Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears
If you hadn’t already, you may have fallen for the dreamy sounds of Iron & Wine when their song “Flightless Bird” was featured in the hot vampire flick “Twilight.” Dig deeper into their anthology to hear more from frontman and singer/songwriter Samuel Beam. He’s a must-see on August 20.
Listen here. Suggested track: “Boy With a Coin”
Girls rule when Cat Power visits with The Pretenders and Juliette Lewis on August 23 at Red Butte Garden. Cat Power, or Chan Marshall, is known for entertaining crowds with her bluesy, sultry voice. Surrounded by the beautiful scenery, this is a good way to end your outdoor concert experience for the summer.

going to throw this out here… don’t get your hopes up on Cat Power. Chan has some sort of insane stage anxiety and cancels about half of her shows…. but if you can catch it, she is pretty great live.
just sayin…
