Dolcetti Gelato

And G is for gelato. As in Salt Lake’s newest gelateria, which has its grand opening today, and totally hits the sweet spot just in time for the real dog days of summer.
Tucked just north of Artichokes and Co. and the Tyson Daniel salon on 1100 East, Dolcetti is fixin’ up to transform the tastebuds of many city ice-cream lovers. Dolcetti’s Italian version of the creamy delicacy comes in flavors like strawberry, pistachio, chocolate, stracciatella, pomegranate, lemon, vanilla bean and more. There are also lemon and strawberry sorbettos that come sans dairy for the vegan in you.
Owners Elizabeth and Mark have taken professional gelato-making courses in L.A. and New York, and have sampled gelato in most Italian cities. Their gelato has previously been served in local restaurants like Fresco, Trio and Cucina Toscana. Now, you don’t have to have the Italian entree to enjoy the Italian dessert. After many requests, Elizabeth and Mark decided it was time to open up shop.
Our favorite thing? The flavors. Not necessarily the variety so much as the “pitch-perfect” taste of each and every one. We were especially (and surprisingly) fond of pistachio, strawberry and pomegranate—which comes with flakes of chocolate mixed in.
You’ll get a “piccolo” for 2.95, “medio” for $3.75 and “grande” for $4.25. What’s that you say? You’re not used to paying $4 for a cup of ice cream? Well, Elizabeth would like you to know that most traditional American ice creams have air mixed in. But Elizabeth guarantees that with her gelato, you’re getting a rich, dense, flavor-packed cup of goodness.
Also keep an eye out for paninis and gelato cakes.

The prices don’t seem steep at all to me. We stopped at Hagen Daaz on Saturday and paid $5 for icecream…and it had freezer burn. So all hail Dolcetti! So excited to try it out. Thanks YHO!

I recently visited Dolcetti. They are soooo friendly and nice. Also, their gelato and sorbettos are just about to die for. Love the pomegranate. The pistachio is amazing. So is the strawberry. And the lemon. OK, I’m done.
