Farmers Market
Set your alarm clock, grab your canvas bag and slide into your favorite flip flops. The Downtown Farmers Market is upon us.
This means better topping for burgers, better Saturday mornings, better opportunities for having run-ins with old friends, better sense of community and better berries to accompany your cereal bowl.
Some new interesting new sellers/vendors/products for 2007 include:
- Brats and other German delights from Siegfried’s Deli
- Big ‘ol lemonades with fresh fruit from Festival Foods
- Chocolate tarts from the bakery with a cute name: Beverly Hills
- Mini’s Cupcakes (isn’t it about time Salt Lake got some cupcake love?)
- Mushrooms. Who knew?
- Native-to-Utah plants for your garden from Grow Wild
- “Sea” salt made in Utah from Real Salt
And be sure to check out these helpful tips from the Downtown Farmers Market website:
- Park for free at the Ford Center Garage. There are 500 spots in this nearby lot, 250 S 400 West.
- The perimeter of the park along 400 West turns to angled parking on Saturdays.
- Take advantage of the free bike valet service offered by the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective. They will watch your bike while you shop.
- Fruit Check (and veggies too!) Located near the center of the block on 300 S., you can leave your purchases at the Fruit Check while you go get your car. Then drive to our loading zone for curbside service.
- Take TRAX downtown for hassle-free parking. Don’t forget to bring a cart to tote your purchases.
Keep your ears open for live music from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the center plaza. Tomorrow, it’ll be from Rex and Kevyn, a mandolin and acoustic guitar-infused bluegrass band.
We’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll run into that one guy who makes spiral-bound journals and notebooks out of old library books. He’s the best.
Have a good arugula-, spinach-, English peas-, garlic-, perennials-, herbs- and house plants-packed weekend. And don’t forget the Italian ice and gelato, of course.

This was my favorite roaming spot on Saturday mornings! I love how the fresh produce changes from June to October, I always bought more than I could handle in one week. :)

OK — so I know the guy who makes those great journals out of old library books — his name is Michael Mack and he and his wife are there every week…those are so cool!

Just had a day at the farmers market yesterday and it was such a blast. I did find the booth with the journals, they are soo cool. glad to hear about this booth. I picked up a couple journals, what a perfict gift but I think I might keep them for myself. I met Michael and his wife Kim, she helped me find the perfect book she makes them and the switch plates. shopped my head off thru out the market as well took home some of the chileverde yum.
