Seraph Stationery & Mandate Press

Sure, Valentine’s Day was four months ago. But anytime is a good time to send a thoughtful note or clever message.
You won’t find the typical flowery fonts and sugar-sweet sentiments in Salt Lake’s Seraph Stationery (also called Mandate Press), which uses stuff like old-timey illustrations, comic book graphics and scientific renderings to say “Thanks,” “I love you,” or maybe just “Pow!”
Seraph’s cards and other letterpressed paper products are sold in boutiques and paperies from coast to coast. Some of our favorites include but are not limited to Tic Tac Love, Don’t Hate Me and I Lost My Head. The great thing about Seraph, (well, one of the great things) is that, like a good white t-shirt, it can cross gender boundaries. The typical not-so-into-stationery-guy might find that letterpress suits him, afterall, upon receiving a coffin-painted copy of Endless Love.

But Seraph knows how to make it pretty, too. Don’t miss cute thank-you notecards like this and this, ideal for jotting down messages like “thanks for the cute stuffed frog for my new baby” and “thanks for hostessing the best weekend I’ve had all year.”
The other great thing about Seraph (see, we told you there were more than one) is that it invites local artists to come on as guest designers. Though you won’t find them on the website, artists like Gentry Blackburn and Trent Call have made their mark on Seraph’s letterpressed and screenprinted cards.
Locally, you’ll see Seraph goods at Tabula Rasa, Write Image, Sam Weller Books, Hip & Humble, Floribunda, Blue Cockatoo and Frosty Darling. Seraph is quickly becoming the go-to place for out of the ordinary but classy letterpressed wedding invitations, too. You can see samples at Tabula Rasa and Floribunda.
For a closer look, Seraph Stationary is having an open house tonight from 6 – 10 p.m. at 825 S. 500 West. They will be selling all their goods at a discount for this special event.
{Rumors of a Doorprize:}
Seraph has kindly offered to grant not one, not two, but three lucky Your Heart Out readers with an awesome gift pack. As usual, we chose the winning numbers. Now all you have to do is leave a comment anywhere on any post (all comments will be counted), and you could win a fun and useful sketchbook and a set of Seraph cards.
The lines will close on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. We’ll let you know when you win!

ooh.. these are amazing! Utah has always had a really cool letterpress scene– i remember trying to help a friend move a 1.5 ton press into her parent’s garage back in the day– but it’s rarely been this hip. I’d LOVE to win this prize!
