Paper Source
Sure, Salt Lake City has its fair share of scrapbooking stores—some pretty awesome ones too, might we add. But when Ecce tipped us off to Paper Source, we could hardly hold in our excitement. Any site that will eventually lure us out from behind the computer screen to create something of our own (rather than drool over other bloggers’ creations) is a welcome stop.
Paper Source is a fairly large paper retailer with stores in most major cities, none of which happen to be in the Beehive State. We weren’t swooned by the novelty so much as the practicality and reality of it all. The inventory is vast, but the projects/products are approachable, even useful to non-scrapbookers like the pair of us. There, we admitted it.
We might not be scrapbook savvy, but we love paper crafts all the same. And we’re sure you do too. Here are some of our favorite Paper Source items:
- An entire section dedicated to book binding. So cool.
- Instructional videos.
- Tidy stickers for packaging and labeling.
- Origami paper with vintage styling.
- Adorable dandelion stamp (and loads of others, get started here).
- Tiled take-out boxes.
- Pretty architect tubes (great for the interior designer in the family).
OK, so the list could go on and on and on, but you get the idea. Inspiration is just a click away.

Since our sojourn in San Francisco, I’ve been in love with PS. I was lucky enough to live only 6 blocks from the one on Fillmore St. Being in a PS store literally brings a smile to my face. I could easily spend 3 hours in there without even thinking. It’s that amazing. I’ve visited many locations and my favorites are: Washington D.C./Georgetown; Boston/Arlington St. across from the Common and San Francisco/Chestnut St. location. The DC one even has an elevator!!! Last year they included a little postscript in their catalog (you must get on their mailing list!) which asked for people to contact their Real Estate guru if a PS location was desired in their hometown. Needless to say I sicked my developer husband on it but apparently the SLC market is not up to par in their eyes. However, I think we’ll try again in a few years. I can see one at Gateway, Sugarhouse, etc.

Aw! I’m glad you liked it. If you get a chance to go to a store you really have to, they’re 1000X cooler than the website or catalog (especially the stamps section, usually filled with funky crazy stamps of things like antique hypodermic needles and butterfly-net wielding old women!). It was my favorite job I’ve ever had: besides just working in the store and designing cute invitations for all the rich soccer moms in Boston, I got to teach classes! Next time I’m in Salt Lake (september) I think I’m going to host a bookmaking workshop for interested parties, so I’ll keep you all posted. It’s a lot easier and more fun to make books once someone’s shown you how it works….

Paper Source is one of my most favorite places to shop, but since there isn’t a retail site near me, I shop online and love their selection! Thanks for featuring them!

Hi Ecce,
I was so thrilled to see this write up about Paper Source! Especially because it covers so much of what I do here at PS…I am Manager of the bindery (where 6 amazing people hand make all of our albums, journals, guest books, kits and other wonderful items you see at the store and online), I also oversee the production of our wonderful, keen and sometimes wacky videos featuring the charismatic founder of Paper Source, Sue Lindstrom. And, when not doing all of that, I coordinate all National Workshops and special events across the country including in store demos and grand openings.
I wish I would have found this site before today to link you in to the Paper Wedding events we just completed across the country. But, not to fear, there are still some luscious samples at all of the 21 stores and our entire line of new letterpress and invitations to suduce just about any paper lover.
Give me a shout anytime you might want to know what’s coming up next here at the HQ in Chicago.
Cheers,
Linda Barrett
