Check It Out

There’s a serious laundry list this week—it combines urban couture and aprons with Slimer, llamas, zombies and treadmills, oh my! We’ll try to be brief, but we couldn’t leave any one of these off the hot list. Here goes:
Feel Like Struttin’: 300 South’s hip-to-the-hop Kayo Gallery and urban boutique Model Citizen are hosting Salt Lake’s first-ever “Fashion Stroll” this evening. The sartorial showdown is complete with live music, debuts from local clothing designers, boutique booth-shopping and more. Get the low-down here.

Sooner or Later: We’re tickled pink (and blue and yellow, with a trace of lace) by a new clothing collection out of Cali—Santa Monica Boulevard, no less. The Soon Collection is the handiwork of FIDM-trained Suener Carnahan, and her style is fresh, ladylike, and demure, with a slight retro nod. For now, the row of photos on the site are providing nice eye candy. For later, we’re hoping to see some Soon in area boutiques. We’ll keep you posted.

Bustin’ Out: What better way to spend Friday the 13th than with free popcorn, your favorite blanket, and “Ghostbusters” at Lindsey Gardens, with all your favorite pals from around the city. The “Friday Night Flicks” series with its “Awesome ’80s” theme is drawing closer to an end with its second-to-last movie tonight, beginning at dusk. Look forward to “Annie” at Riverside Park on the 20th.

All this, handcrafted by local girls Amy Wilson and Kari Child, and more at Maven Design’s premier sale this weekend. Night of the Living Dead: Warning: Zombie attack scheduled for tonight at approximately 6 p.m. Keep your brains safe and watch from the sidelines, or join the dead entourage—makeup and water bottles provided. The city’s first-ever formal “Zombie March,” as put on by the U of U’s Slapstick Association, will feature a screening of the Fuzzyco short, “Zombies,” following the moaning, groaning and limping parade.

Spa’n'City: Whether a rough day of work makes you yearn for a mani/pedi or a quick 30 on the elliptical, the Gateway’s first salon-and-gym combo is now open. The Metro Fitness Club is a full-service fitness and wellness club, complete with the area’s only Aveda Lifestyle-certified Sanctuary Day Spa. Ah, the sweet smell of witch hazel. Tina, come get some dinner!: Though you probably won’t find any lasagna, don’t miss the go-to event of 2007: The Llama Fest, named one of Esquire magazines top 15 travel destinations. Catch the pride of the Andes with live performances and lots and lots of llamas—all at the Sri Sri Rahda Krishna Temple. Hint: volunteers needed. Work for two hours and get a sweet Llama Fest T-shirt. Lucky.

That zombie march sounds amazing. I’d totally join the fray, but I’ve been told that I only have a 32% chance of surviving a zombie attack, so I’d better stay indoors.
That leaves the Llama fest for me. A much safer, un-dead animal that gives me warm fuzzies.

What a great list, I think I’ll have to go check out the llama’s….they used to serve great vegetarian food on Sundays, do they still do that?
You guys have your fingers on the pulse of the city!!
